PROJECTS

50 Foot Tall Telescoping Tripod

A client requested an easy to transport 50 foot tall camera tripod. Dascomb Consulting conceived, analyzed and designed the new product which will be the tallest movable camera tripod on the market. Extensive analysis was done to ensure the structure could handle the required wind loads exerted on such a large system.

Dascomb Consulting performed the mechanical design and created production drawings for a series of aftermarket brake lights. The design series incorporated rows of LED brake lights and LED illuminated light pipes that served as running lights.

Bulk Material Analyzer

Principal engineer John Dascomb designed and supervised the fabrication of a Bulk Material Analyzer for San Diego startup XRSciences. This was XRSciences' first commercial product which utilizes Prompt-Gamma Neutron Activation Analysis (PGNAA) to measure the elemental composition of raw limestone.

Augers for Extreme Temperature Environment

San Diego startup Interra Energy required a set of augers that were capable of handling course biomass in a pressurized vessel. With internal temperatures exceeding 1500 °F, extensive Finite Elemental Analysis (FEA) was done to ensure the augers would not yield. The augers were fabricated and installed in 2016, and successfully handled the harsh conditions.

Portable X-Ray and Neutron Generators

Portable X-ray generators were designed for the military to image suspicious packages. Highlights of the design were it's extreme light weight construction and high imaging resolution. A neutron Generator was also designed to replace the use of radioactive material in non-destructive imaging of raw materials for the cement industry.

Biomass Gasification Research

Dr. Dascomb received his Ph.D. at Florida State University researching renewable energy sources. He constructed an experimental facility to measure the efficiency of producing hydrogen via biomass gasification.
